Since the autumn of 2020, launched by the Foundation for Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, the Stefan Lengyel Scholarship of Excellence programme has been rewarding students who come up with exceptional ideas and handle contemporary design issues with an innovative, critical and socially sensitive design approach in their semester projects. So far, a total of 112 students have benefited from the programme’s performance-based professional support. The exhibition features 32 works of the scholarship holders of the last two semesters.

The Sequences of Ideas: Shared Visions in Design is the third exhibition of the Stefan Lengyel Scholarship of Excellence in which the scholarship holders can showcase their works and also the third time the issues and phenomena the community of MOME considers most important, are presented. Besides reflecting on environmental and social change, this year, there are significantly more projects examining the pros and cons of digital technology and artificial intelligence, and simultaneously, and not entirely unrelated, researching mental well-being. Spatial and object designs, multimedia projects and theoretical research representing all disciplines of the university introduce the audience to design-based processes of community building, product development opportunities for well-known brands and socially-sensitive genres of video games, among others.

As the scholarship programme evolves each year according to feedback, the structure of the exhibition also builds on the experience gained from previous years. Therefore this year, the exhibition is organised in a more open manner, fostering community and allowing freer access to the projects. Recycling, the use of modular elements, local production and the small businesses of MOME alumni came together to produce this year’s exhibition installation. Pairing the works according to their themes reinforce common visions, shared design approaches, or the possibility of approaching a given topic from multiple perspectives. This sense of sequences is not only reflected in the works being thematically interconnected, but also in the form of a retrospective archive wall, which draws attention to the important role of each former student in the topics and issues future scholarship holders take up in their creative and design work, and thus what they add to the intellectual heritage of MOME.
